OUR STORY - Telling our story

Telling Our Story

We tell the proud story of our industry with a strong voice.

As the Property Council’s influence has grown, so has our place at the centre of the national dialogue. We recognise that it is important to engage with communities and that every industry must earn its own social licence to operate.

We champion our industry’s importance to the economy and the community in the media and to the public. We use our voice to recognise and reward excellence across the spectrum of our industry. And we honour the legacy of those who helped shape our nation through the Australian Property Hall of Fame.

Our narrative is at the centre of Australia’s nation-building agenda. Our community-facing campaigns tell our industry’s proud story and highlight the unique contribution we make as Australia’s biggest generator of jobs and economic activity.

We are a wealth creator, keeping 1.4 million people in jobs, contributing 13 per cent of Australia’s GDP and helping 14.8 million Australians save for retirement through their superannuation funds.

We are vital to both the household and national balance sheets – and we help shape the future of our cities, creating sustainable communities in which Australians work, live and enjoy their lives.

We drive home this message on billboards and digital screens at airports, in office towers and across CBDs, radio and television ads, in mainstream media coverage and through a steady stream of social media activity. Our chief executive and executive directors are regularly called to represent our industry in the media.

The Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program celebrates our industry’s ongoing contribution. When we gathered for the first annual awards ceremony in 1982, many of the buildings that now shape our skylines, bring life to our cities and energy to local economies were still distant dreams or preliminary sketches on the drawing board.

Since then, we have celebrated the most outstanding projects and dynamic people reshaping our cities and delivering exceptional long-term assets. The Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year has been presented to some of our nation’s most iconic buildings: Sydney’s tallest timber tower, International House, retail trailblazer Pacific Fair Shopping Centre on the Gold Coast, Brisbane’s city-shaping Riparian Plaza and Melbourne’s sustainability superstar, ANZ Centre, among them.

We also tell our story through the Australian Property Hall of Fame, launched in 2012. Each year we salute our industry’s luminaries who, through their pioneering leadership and visionary entrepreneurship, leave behind a rich legacy for Australian communities and showcase the property industry’s central role in nation building.
